Parent Policies & Class Guidelines
KMDS Acro Class Guidelines
Our priority is to provide a safe, positive and encouraging environment where every student can develop strength, flexibility, confidence and Acro skills at an appropriate pace.
1Students only in the dance room
Classes are for students only unless parents/guardians are specifically invited into the room by Katie. This helps students concentrate and allows Katie to coach and spot safely.
2What to wear
Students should wear suitable close-fitting, comfortable clothing that allows Katie to clearly see body position and alignment. Please avoid jeans, skirts, dresses and restrictive or very loose clothing.
Hair should be securely tied back and away from the face. Jewellery and watches should be removed before class.
Acro is normally performed in bare feet, unless Katie advises otherwise.
3Before class
Please make sure your child has used the toilet before class and brings a named drink/water bottle.
Students should arrive on time and wait for Katie’s instruction before using any mats, AirTrack or other equipment.
4Safety & progression
Students must only practise the skills Katie has instructed them to work on.
New or more advanced skills must not be attempted without Katie’s permission, even if a student has previously tried the skill elsewhere.
Acro skills are progressive. Katie will decide when a student is ready to move onto the next progression based on their technique, strength, control and prerequisite skills.
Students should never attempt to spot one another unless specifically instructed by Katie.
5Injuries & pain
Please let Katie know before class about any injury, pain or physical restriction that could affect participation.
Students are encouraged to tell Katie immediately if anything hurts or does not feel right during class.
6Behaviour
Students are expected to listen while instructions are being given, respect other students and use equipment safely.
Running around the equipment, pushing, distracting another student while they are performing, or attempting skills without permission is not allowed.
Most importantly, we want our Acro classes to be positive and encouraging. Every child progresses at a different rate, and we celebrate individual improvement rather than comparing students.
